Using sculpture and performance, Dylan Chan's retrospective works tap into the relationship between objects and subjects. He associates everyday items from daily routines and assembles them into surreal structures. With light-hearted humor and meditative interaction, his works reengage everyday objects and scenarios, exploring the narrative of human identity in the world of objects and pre-conceived ideologies.
“I’m interested in visualizing everyday bodily experiences through physically combining or altering routine objects such as sink drains and baking trays; re-engaging with them to explore alternative narratives of their being. Their functions become gateways for me to engage with them, and surrender to the habits they reinforce in our reality.”
