My Broken Bathroom
Behind the Board
Back
In contrast with Heidegger’s concept of a broken hammer, where an object stops functioning correctly and thus becomes present to the subject’s attention (Vorhandenheit); Dylan Chan combines objects to break their original contexts, forcing us to confront the objects and adapt to their new identities. His performances are humorous at first as he interacts with each structure based on the visual cues, the later meditative twist examines the impact of objects on subjects in shaping actions and identities. My Broken Bathroom is an installation consisting of three sculptures and performances in reconsideration of the value and identities we give to what we deem as objects, and in turn ourselves.
